4 3 Loss To Padres Ends Pittsburghs Home Stand

Pirates' Late Rally Falls Short In Series Finale

4-3 Loss To Padres Ends Pittsburgh's Home Stand

Pittsburgh, PA -

The Pittsburgh Pirates' late rally fell just short on Thursday afternoon, as they dropped the series finale to the San Diego Padres 4-3. The loss ended Pittsburgh's seven-game home stand with a 3-4 record. The Pirates trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but they rallied to load the bases with one out. However, Padres closer Josh Hader struck out Tucupita Marcano and Rodolfo Castro to end the game. Oneil Cruz hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Pirates' only run until the ninth. JT Brubaker allowed three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, while the bullpen allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings. The Pirates now embark on a seven-game road trip, beginning with a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
