North Korea's Summer Olympics Journey

Origins and Early Involvements

North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), made its Olympic debut in the Winter Games of 1964. Since then, the nation has participated in a total of 10 Summer Olympic Games, including the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

2016 Rio Olympics

North Korea sent a delegation of 31 athletes to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The team competed in five sports, including weightlifting, gymnastics, and swimming, but did not win any medals.

2024 Paris Olympics

The DPRK is expected to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. The nation's delegation size and sports representation have yet to be announced.

Medal Performance

To date, North Korea has won a total of 10 Olympic medals in 10 different sports. The nation's most successful Olympic performance was at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where they won one silver and three bronze medals in shooting, wrestling, and boxing.
