Magic sign Banchero to multi-year extension

Sixers earn wire-to-wire victory in Orlando, remain undefeated

Banchero was averaging 20.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 45 games for Orlando this season

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic have signed forward Paolo Banchero to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that it is a four-year, $80 million extension. Banchero, 20, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft and has averaged 20.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 45 games for Orlando this season. "Paolo has quickly established himself as a rising star in this league," Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a statement. "His combination of size, skill and athleticism is truly unique, and we believe he has the potential to be one of the best players in the NBA. We are thrilled to have him as a part of our organization for many years to come." Banchero is averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season. He has also shown flashes of his potential on the defensive end, with 1.1 blocks and 0.9 steals per game. The Magic are 22-30 this season, but they have shown signs of improvement under first-year coach Jamahl Mosley. Banchero's extension is a sign that the team believes he is a key part of their future. "I'm excited to continue my career in Orlando," Banchero said in a statement. "I believe in the direction this team is heading, and I'm committed to helping us reach our goals. I want to thank the Magic organization for believing in me, and I'm looking forward to representing this city for many years to come."
